The FICPI 23rd Open Forum 2026 took place at the Corinthia Hotel Budapest on 16–18 September. The international intellectual property conference welcomed FICPI members, non-members, industry practitioners and representatives of official bodies. It combined developments in substantive IP law with the management of professional practices, reflecting FICPI’s focus on independent IP attorneys.

The working programme offered three parallel streams: IP Practice Management, Patents, and Trade Marks & Designs. Topics included firm strategy and business models, compliance, automation and the use of AI in IP practice. Patent sessions explored cross-border enforcement, functional claims, green innovation and pharmaceutical patentability. The trademark and design stream considered international filing, brand partnerships and the overlap between copyright and design protection.

This structure allowed delegates to move between specialist legal updates and the wider challenges of running an IP firm. Plenary discussions and networking complemented the technical sessions, connecting practitioners from different jurisdictions and professional backgrounds. For patent and trademark attorneys in private practice, the Budapest Open Forum provided a setting to compare legal approaches, develop international relationships and examine how firms can adapt their services and operations.
