The AUTM 2026 Annual Meeting was held on 8–11 February at the Seattle Convention Center’s Arch building in Seattle, Washington. The conference brought together technology-transfer professionals and partners working to move research discoveries into commercial use. Its audience included university and research-institution teams, licensing professionals and others involved in the management and development of intellectual property.

The meeting combined discussion of licensing, compliance and legal issues with professional education. Optional courses covered technology valuation, advanced licensing, marketing and negotiation. These sessions addressed practical questions such as structuring financial terms, evaluating risk, negotiating licence agreements and engaging researchers and potential commercial partners. Advocacy was also part of the wider conversation, including how institutions explain the role and impact of technology transfer to policymakers and the public.

AUTM’s Annual Meeting is particularly relevant to teams connecting scientific research with industry needs. Successful commercialisation depends on more than securing a patent: it also requires appropriate agreements, an understanding of potential markets and relationships with organisations able to develop an invention. The Seattle meeting brought those responsibilities together in a forum centred on the practice of technology transfer.
